Empowering Hairstylists: Naeemah LaFond’s Texture on Set Event Bridges the Gap in Textured Hair Education

In recent years, models and actors have shared countless horror stories about mishandling their natural hair on Set, ranging from heat damage to hair loss. The culprit? A lack of proper training on how to work with textured hair. The Solution? The Texture On Set event by Naeemah LaFond.

Naeemah LaFond, a Haitian-American internationally acclaimed hairstylist and 2024 North American Hairstylist Awards' Editorial Hair Stylist of the Year, is taking action with her Texture on Set event. Now in its second year, this event, scheduled for Monday, March 10th, 2025, in New York City, is the first educational event specifically targeting the gap in texture education in fashion and beauty.

This all-day event educates hairstylists on properly caring for and styling all hair textures, from curls to coils, on set and during shoots. Whether you're an established professional or an up-and-coming stylist, Texture on Set equips you with the knowledge and tools to work confidently with textured hair.

LaFond's career speaks for itself. A pioneer for diversity in beauty, she has worked on high-profile runway shows and global ad campaigns, earning recognition for her mastery of all hair textures. Known for her technical range, from effortless looks to sculpted artwork, she is also the co-developer of Pinterest’s Hair Pattern Search Tool, designed to make hairstyle inspiration more accessible to people with diverse hair types. Through her involvement, she ensured that the tool reflected a broad range of textures, promoting inclusivity for all hair types.

Watching Harlem last week, I saw a scene where Angie (played by Shoniqua Shandai) was in her dressing room preparing for her performance. Her hairstylist, a white woman clearly untrained in textured hair, didn’t know how to style Angie's hair. She left Angie to figure it out alone, patting her on the head and saying, “I will see you on set Diva.”

That moment made me think about Naeemah and her work with Texture on Set. LaFond is empowering creatives and models to focus on their craft while helping hairstylists become more versatile, skilled, and confident in working with all hair types.

Texture on Set is your chance to level up your skills and be part of the change in the beauty industry. Don’t miss dynamic presentations, expert panels, networking opportunities, and exclusive perks. All ticket tiers include access to educational content, a networking hour with refreshments, gift bags from leading beauty brands, photo activations, and a champagne toast.
